Headshot Client Preparation Guide

Congratulations on taking the next step towards enhancing your professional profile or portfolio with a new headshot! To help you get the most out of your session, we've prepared a detailed guide covering everything from wardrobe choices to hair and makeup considerations. By following these tips, you can arrive at your photo session feeling prepared and confident.

Wardrobe- Dress in your best!

  • While I normally suggest neutral tones, if you feel most confident in bright colors please feel free to wear them!
  • Avoid Logos and Graphics on your clothing.
  • Make sure your clothing fits correctly & you feel comfortable.
  • Add a jacket or sweater to create a more polished look. Textures can add depth to photos.

Glasses & Accessories

  • If you wear glasses or contacts, wear whichever you wear on a normal basis.
  • Keep jewelry simple as you are the main focus, stick to a statement piece or a few smaller items, too much takes away from you.

Skin Care

  • Increase your water intake in the days leading up to your session to ensure your skin looks hydrated and healthy.
  • Apply a light moisturizer on the day of the shoot to avoid dry, flaky skin

as skin texture will be highlighted by the camera.

  • Try to have a good night's sleep before the day of the shoot to help minimize dark circles under your eyes.

Hair & Makeup

  • Aim for a look that is representative of how you would appear within a professional setting
  • Your hair should be styled the way you wear it most frequently. Ensure it is neat and not covering your eyes to keep the focus on your expressions.
  • For those with facial hair or short hair, make sure any facial hair is neatly trimmed. A fresh haircut a few days before the shoot is ideal.
  • Bring lipstick, Chapstick, lip gloss day of for touchups!
  • Bring a comb to catch those last minute stray hairs!

Final Thoughts

Most importantly, be yourself! The best photos happen when you are comfortable and relaxed. Be open to suggestions and don't be afraid to let your personality shine through.

Practice in the mirror! A range of expressions from more serious to a relaxed smile can provide great options when creating your ideal image.

We're excited to see you soon and bring your vision to life!
